History & Background

The Health Care Authority formed a group—now AccessMyHealth.org—to support consumers and providers in their health record banking demonstration project.

AccessMyHealth.org grew out of a Health Care Authority committee charged with finding methods and educational approaches to activate and engage consumers and providers in the use of online personalized health records in conjunction with their health record banking demonstration project.  The committee prepared a consumer engagement plan that outlined the approach and offered three distinct phases of engagement.

The first phase involved gathering information from consumers and providers to learn about their thoughts and reactions to online personalized health records and the health record banking concept.  The second phase focuses on educating consumers about the privacy and security of this method of health information sharing and the associated risks and benefits.  The final phase involves building a participant base of consumers and providers who are engaged in information sharing.

The goals of AccessMyHealth.org are to:

  • Inform consumers and providers about online personalized health records and tools available to manage this information; and
  • Support the health record bank demonstration project by:
    • Providing consumers and providers with project information
    • Serving as an advocate and representative for participants
    • Evaluating consumer and provider experience with the health record bank
    • Communicating project information to Washingtonians
