For Doctors

Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and other healthcare professionals are crucial partners in this project.

AccessMyHealth.org is exploring ways to securely compile each individual’s personal health information in one place so that doctors can have the benefit of working with more fully engaged patients.

Why Partner?

  • The AccessMyHealth.org partnership believes that patients are more likely to adhere to treatment plans and get better outcomes when they take more responsibility for their health information. One way to encourage this responsibility is by giving patients copies of their health information, along with tools to validate such things as demographic data, medications, allergies and advance directives; and then making it easy to share that online personal health record with their physician at the time of each office visit.
  • Online personalized health records provide a framework for patients to bring information, like medication lists, that they have validated to each visit in an easily-used format, creating efficiencies for the doctor from registration, to exam room, to payment. With an online personalized health record, the patient can assemble copies of laboratory or imaging results from different sources, giving a provider more complete information at the point of care. By sharing their own copy of their health record with their doctors, patients can help improve the flow of information from one clinical source to another, without the burden of HIPAA, or the challenges of interoperability between delivery systems.
  • While it may someday be possible to have all of a patient’s information available to any facility any time that person seeks care, right now the technical and security challenges of such “interoperability” are significant.  Patients are the only ones present at all their visits. By giving them tools to share their information at the point of care, we can begin to achieve the efficiency of complete information while simultaneously engaging patients in their own care in ways that have been shown to improve clinical outcomes.

Participate With Us

AccessMyHealth.org is looking for healthcare organizations and doctors interested in working with us to gather opinions from their members, constituents and employees.  We are looking for individuals interested in giving us direct input. You can participate at any level; answer a brief survey, take a telephone call, set up an online personal health record, or something in between.

We strongly encourage you to find out more and work with us to make sure that online personal health records in Washington State meet the needs of both patients and their physicians.
