Jeffrey Hummel, MD, MPH

Dr. Jeff Hummel, MD, MPH has extensive experience in medical informatics, clinical medicine, and clinical quality improvement. Since 2005, Dr. Hummel has been the Medical Director for Clinical Informatics at Qualis Health, focusing much of his work on consulting with medical practices to adapt their EMRs to support people and workflow processes for the purpose of improving clinical outcomes through the use of a Lean training program that he helped adapt to the unique needs of ambulatory practices. Dr. Hummel participated as an information technology expert on the HIAAB, which developed the health record bank concept on which AccessMyHealth.org is based, serving as chairman of the Technical Infrastructure Committee and later as chairman of the Privacy and Security Sub-committee.

Dr. Hummel’s nearly 30-year primary care internal medicine career comprises an eclectic mix including 4 years of rural solo practice in the Palouse, 13 years at Group Health, and 10 years at UW Medicine Neighborhood clinics. He also spent several years training Physician Assistants to work with Native Health Aides in remote Alaskan villages, and for several years ran an international public health training collaboration between the University of Washington and the Universidad de Guadalajara in Mexico.
